Shampoo Bar Usage:
Shampoo bars are perfect for the hair-maven who wants more volume in her hair life. It's highly cleansing and perfect for anyone who needs variety in their hair routine.
Using a shampoo bar seems pretty simple. Right? Maybe...
There's a science behind its usage, especially if you have hard water!
Shampoo bars fail many of us because we live in areas that have hard water. When you use a shampoo bar with hard water, the soap will not rinse clean and it will more than likely leave a waxy deposit on your strands! YIKES!
Here are some simple methods, I employ for those who have hard water:
You will be able to purchase a pH adjusting rinse at HairVeda to accommodate the shampoo bar for those with hard water.pH adjusting rinses are not only great for shampoo bars, they are also perfect for after relaxing and and dyeing.
Hair Q & A with BJ
Q: So what is co-washing?
BJ: Leave the shampoo behind! Co washing is an innovative way to cleanse your hair and moisturize all in one! I am a firm advocate of washing hair in the shower because the downwards motion of the water helps to detangle! While in the shower using warm water (never hot) completely drench your hair. Next, pour a heaping amount of conditioner in your hands (2-4 oz for all you technical chicas) and rub on your hair from the crown to the roots. Using your fingers or the HairVeda Detangler comb spread the conditioner evenly throughout your hair. Now leave it alone! Let the conditioner warm up on your strands to coat and protect. You’ll be ready to rinse in about 2-5 minutes. Rinse with warm water and towel dry. Apply CoCasta oil to your ends and detangle!
Q: Wait BJ, you didn’t mention a moisturizer!!!
BJ: ‘Cause you don’t need one!
Q: I don’t believe you!
BJ: Try it Dollface!

Baggy Technique Q&A
What are the benefits?
The baggy method is a way to help your hair retain the moisture it needs for maximum growth retention. The baggy method (if done properly) will reduce breakage, split ends, dryness and the need for constant trims.
What type of baggy do I use?
It's up to you! The sky is the limit! You have many options such as sandwich bags, cut trash bag, shopping bag, window insulation plastic (thin), saran wrap (best for whole head baggies) & plastic shower caps. Most of these baggies are easily applied on a braided or twisted ponytail.
What are good sealant oils & moisturizers?
Among the most touted oils are coconut, olive oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil, WGO and others. These oils are used AFTER the moisturizer has been applied to the portion to be baggied. Moisturizers vary. The best being natures own, water. There are countless moisturizers to choose from, some of the popular ones are glycerin, BB Moisturizing Lotion, SCurl, CareFree Curl Gold among others. You will have to experiment a little to find which moisturizer is right for you!
How much product do I use?
This depends the length and thickness of your hair. I like to say a dime sized amount of moisture for those who are shoulder length-APL. A quarter size amount will do for those who are BSL or longer. Only a small amount of sealant oil is needed after the moisture is applied.
How do I apply a full head baggy?
You would moisturize your hair and seal with oil as described above. If your hair is too short to ponytail you can simply comb your hair back. If you are natural (short length) all you have to do is apply product. Place the saran wrap or plastic cap on hair. Saran wrap can be controlled and wrapped as desired. Note: Many full head baggies complain of wet hair upon waking up. This is due to the natural body heat you produce and possibly sweat. If you are uncomfortable with this, consider moisturizing, sealing and sleeping with a satin bonnet instead.
What are some ways to cover up my ponytail baggy during the day?
This is your time to be creative! You have many options ranging from wrapping a scarf around your baggy, using netting or another “cool” cover-up. Many users wear phony pony’s and phony buns to cover the baggy as well.
When can I remove the baggy?
That depends on your schedule and lifestyle. Many women who baggy only do so at night. Those who do so during the day use cover-up methods outlined in the previous answer. However, it is suggested that one allows the hair "breathing time" to fully dry. Te will discuss this further in the following Q&A.
How do I keep my hair from becoming overly moisturized?
You will know that your hair is overly moisturized if you hair feels limp to the touch is easily stretched or is breaking easily. To avoid this it is recommended to allow the hair a little “dry time”. It is recommended that occasional protein treatments are given to the hair for recovery. This is especially needed for relaxed or chemically treated hair. Set a time in your schedule to remove the baggy and allow your hair to get much needed oxygen.
Troubleshooting:
Hair is overly moisturized.
That means too much product has been applied. Reduce the amount of moisturizer on the next application.
Hair is breaking after using baggy for a couple of weeks.
Hair is most likely in need of a protein treatment.
Hair is breaking around the ponytail or crown is shorter than before.
Consider alternating ponytails to different sides of the head. Do not wrap the hair elastic tightly and make sure metal free hair elastics are being used.
The baggy can be a great asset to gaining the maximum length and hair health. Many baggy wearers report amazing results in as little as 5 months. Overall hair health and moisture levels can be felt immediately.
